A summary of engagement with rural communities in South Gloucestershire

Between September 2014 to March 2015, Healthwatch South Gloucestershire visited 9 rural community groups to find out their experience of accessing health and social care services. They spoke to 200 people.
Three main themes emerged:
- Difficulty accessing Southmead Hospital, especially by public transport
- The importance of the local GP surgery
- the importance of out of hours and urgent care alternatives to A&E at Southmead hospital
