Summary of report content

Healthwatch Calderdale and Healthwatch Kirklees undertook an announced enter and view visit to Manor Croft Care Home on 14 April 2026.  They spoke to 23 people.

Manor Croft is a two-storey care home in Dewsbury providing residential, nursing, dementia, and respite care for up to 40 residents, with 37 residents and 17 staff present on the day of the visit.

Overall, the home was found to have a calm, welcoming, and homely atmosphere, with residents appearing comfortable and well cared for and staff interacting in a warm, respectful manner.

Residents and visitors were generally very positive about the service, highlighting the caring and friendly staff, good quality care, cleanliness, and a variety of activities as key strengths of the home.

Many residents said they felt safe, supported, and treated with dignity, and they valued their independence and the encouragement they received from staff to make choices about their daily lives.

The home offered a range of social opportunities, including coffee mornings, activities such as gardening and bingo, and access to outdoor spaces, although some residents preferred not to participate and others suggested more opportunities for interaction.

Food was generally well regarded, with residents praising the variety and flexibility, but some concerns were raised about meals sometimes not being warm enough when served in bedrooms.

Staff were described as approachable, committed, and well supported by management, and many staff members reported high job satisfaction and strong teamwork, although some residents and visitors felt there could be more staff available for one-to-one interaction.

The visit also identified some areas for improvement, including ensuring food is served at the correct temperature, reducing distractions such as televisions during group activities, improving opportunities for social interaction, addressing minor environmental issues such as slippery outdoor surfaces, and continuing to review staffing levels.

In conclusion, the report found that Manor Croft Care Home provides a positive environment with high levels of satisfaction among residents and staff, while also identifying practical improvements to further enhance residents’ experience.
