Healthwatch Bromley undertook an announced enter and view visit to Foxbridge House on 21 October 2016. They spoke to 18 people. The purpose of the visit was to observe the service, gather feedback from residents and staff, identify good practice, and highlight areas for improvement.
Overall, residents reported high levels of satisfaction with the care provided. Most residents said they liked living at Foxbridge House, noting that it offered a supportive, social environment and reduced feelings of isolation, although a small number would have preferred to remain at home if possible.
Residents consistently stated that they received enough support from staff, who were described as friendly, caring, and approachable. Observations during the visit confirmed positive interactions between staff and residents, and staff were seen to be attentive and respectful.
The report found that residents had good levels of personal choice and autonomy. They were satisfied with the quality and variety of food, had options to participate in activities, and could choose how to spend their time. Facilities such as lounges, a cinema room, a hair salon, and a garden provided opportunities for relaxation and socialising.
There were also opportunities for residents to maintain links with the community. Many residents reported going on organised trips or spending time outside the home with family, and external groups sometimes visited to provide activities or information.
Feedback from staff indicated generally positive working conditions, with most feeling supported and highlighting strong training opportunities. However, a small number of staff reported being too busy to spend as much time as they would like getting to know residents.
The environment of the home was observed to be clean, safe, well-maintained, and welcoming, with good security measures in place. A wide range of activities was available, and staffing levels were considered appropriate.
The main area identified for improvement was the need to better inform residents about how they can influence changes within the service and raise concerns.
In conclusion, the report found that Foxbridge House delivered a high standard of care with strong resident satisfaction, a positive environment, and good staff engagement, with only minor improvements needed around resident involvement in decision-making.
