Healthwatch Telford and Wrekin carried out an announced Enter and View visit to Lightmoor View Nursing Home on 16 January 2026 to observe the environment, speak with residents, relatives and staff, and gather feedback about the quality of care. The visit found the home to be clean, tidy and welcoming, with a homely, non-clinical atmosphere. Staff were observed to be respectful, caring and person-centred in their interactions, and residents and relatives gave largely positive feedback about the care, communication and approachability of staff.
The home provides nursing, dementia care and re-enablement services and was supporting 65 residents at the time of the visit. Facilities include communal lounges, dining areas, kitchenettes and a recently refurbished garden that promotes wellbeing. However, some environmental issues were identified, such as higher temperatures on upper floors, inconsistent signage, uneven flooring in one area and toilet seats that lacked sufficient colour contrast for people with visual or cognitive impairments.
Residents were supported to make choices about meals and activities, and relatives reported feeling informed and involved, particularly when changes occurred or residents were admitted to hospital. A wide range of health services is accessed by the home, including GP, pharmacy, vision care, physiotherapy and mental health support, although the manager noted challenges in obtaining timely advice from mental health teams. Staffing levels were generally viewed as adequate, but both staff and relatives raised concerns about the availability of nurses across multiple units and the use of agency staff.
Overall, the report concluded that residents at Lightmoor View are treated with dignity and respect and benefit from committed and friendly staff. While the overall quality of care was viewed positively, the report made several recommendations for improvement, including better temperature control, clearer signage, visible identification for agency staff, updated staffing boards and adjustments to reduce potential trip hazards. The provider welcomed the feedback and expressed a commitment to making improvements and continuing to deliver high-quality, compassionate care.
