This report summarises the findings from Healthwatch Ealing's Enter and View visit to Marron House, a supported housing service for individuals with mental health needs, on 11 December 2024.
The visit gathered the views of four residents, three staff members, and the manager. The report covers accessibility, the environment, personal care, safety, staffing, and resident experience.
Key issues identified included over-reliance on takeaway food, an untidy garden, and limited opportunities for physical activity.
Residents suggested more structured support around cooking and improved outdoor facilities.
Staff raised concerns about limited overtime opportunities and expressed a desire for further training to support residents with complex needs.
Healthwatch recommended using key worker sessions to promote healthy eating, enhancing the outdoor area with support from local grants, and offering more tailored staff development.
The provider responded positively to all recommendations, confirming the addition of outdoor gym equipment, scheduled lawn maintenance, regular cooking sessions, and new training initiatives. Full staffing had also been achieved, reducing reliance on agency workers. Marron House’s strong safety protocols were highlighted as a model for similar facilities.
